Partner Visa – upcoming changes

Are you planning to apply for a partner visa? On 1 July 2017, the Department of Immigration will introduce the following changes:
1) Australian sponsor has to undergo a screening and approval process before visa application can be lodged (e.g. mandatory police check)
2) Visa application charge will increase to $7,000
3) Fee for 2nd stage will be introduced (it is not known yet how much this will be)
4) Wait time between 1st and 2nd stage will increase from 2 to 3 years. This means it will take longer to gain permanent residency.
We recommend to apply asap before 1/7/17! Read our blog post for more info on the partner visa. Contact us for a quote – we have helped many couples to get their visa and live together in Australia happily ever after!

Thanks, Northern Immigration Australia for explaining the changes.
What about for the ones who are on the temporary visa at the moment? Are they affected?

    • Manuela Seiberth on June 6, 2017 at 8:25 am

      Hi Nadine,

The partner visa is a “Time of Application” visa. If you applied/held the temporary visa before 1 July 2017 you should not be affected by the changes. However, as the previous weeks in Australian immigration politics have shown nothing is certain! Please keep an eye on our website as well as Facebook page – we will keep you updated!

    Dear Northern Immigration Australia,

Thanks for the heads-up. Is it realistic to try and get an application in before the changes start?

    • Manuela Seiberth on June 6, 2017 at 8:21 am

      Dear Leo,

Thanks for your enquiry. A partner visa application can be done within a couple of weeks. It depends how quickly you can get the relevant evidence together.
Please also make sure that you and your partner are eligible to apply for the visa. You can book in for a consultation where we assess your eligibility and explain what is required for a successful partner visa application. The consultation can be conducted by phone, Skype, email or face to face if in Darwin. Contact us!

    Hi Northern Immigration Australia,

Has the partner visa changed now? How long will the sponsor screening process take?

      Hi Barny,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, the partner visa has changed as of 1 July 2017.
The sponsor screening is now the first part of the application process. The wait time for this varies. I recommend to apply as soon as you are eligible.
